    Communism + Democracy might add up to something different.

    Case in point: after all the woes it has been suffering the past several
    years, Sri Lanka recently voted in a Marxist-Leninist President. He took a chance and called a snap Parliamentary election, and his party now has the majority of seats.

    This is why you have “checks and balances”, one of which is a free press.

    Last I checked, the USA was about a third of the way down the list of comparative press freedoms.
