Now installing FreeBSD on one of my 'old' super-mini
PCs (BMax). HAVE the instructions for putting a GUI
(XFCE) onto FBSD (and it WORKED in a VirtualBox VM).
GUIs are not evil, make a lot of common stuff
a lot easier.
STILL have NO advice as to whether it's possible to 'DD'
a VirtualBox VM to something else ........
ANYway ... searched around for a VNC so I can get
a GUI to the FBSD box. SOME say 'Tiger', but others
say the older 'Tight' may be better. I've used, and
use, 'Tight' and kinda like it. It's small and fairly
quick and makes it very easy to have off-traditional
VNC porting. Main disadvantage is a short password,
but that's more for biz/commercial, not for my
'home' stuff.
Got a few goodies coming ... monitor/keyboard/etc for
the FBSD box. By the weekend ...
Anyway - what's the practical experience here ?
Yea yea ... WHY BSD ? Well, it's a bit *different*,
a bit more *exotic*, a bit more "secure". Did UNIX
"Sys V" a long long time ago and do not have any
prejudices against it. In some respects Linux has
become a little TOO "consumer friendly" IMHO, kinda
following the horrible path of Winders.
Other mini-PCs ... got an N-150 that's strong enough
to replace two older - N95 - units. THAT stuff is
taken care of. However DO now have the 'older' units
so kinda MUST put something cool on them :-) Other
box ... faux-Amiga maybe ???
