The Mutt repository has a contrib Python script that is supposed to
enable Mutt to connect (also against Outlook) using OAUTH:

    https://gitlab.com/muttmua/mutt/-/blob/master/contrib/mutt_oauth2.py

There is also a Merge Request pending with some improvements/updates for
this script, might be worth checking out.

I'm not using it so can't say any further.

    Same here, though.

I found some tutorials on the web but none of it was working.
Did you succeed with it and can recommend a good way to
configure mutt with microsoft based email?
    Thanks in advance!

It used to be that you could just configure it to use the email address
and the password to do it. In the last month or so, Microsoft has moved to something like OAUTH instead, removing the option of username/password.

You might be able to get it working if you look for solutions on how to
use OAUTH with mutt. That is of course assuming that Microsoft stuck to
the established standard on how to do such authentication.
