It has recently come to light that there has been censoring of posts to the Facebook (Meta) social network. It has been left-leaning
censorship, where people on the "right" have their voices and opinions silenced as a result of inappropriate censoring by people and digital algorithms alike. The man in charge of Facebook/Meta has recently been in the news saying that he is sorry for what his company has done, and acknowledges the wrong-doing.
Zuckerberg only admitted to half of his wrongdoing. He admitted to conspiring with the Harris/Biden administration to censor posts pertaining to COVID-19 and vaccines. (That's something we should also talk about in another sp00onet echo!) Zuckerberg failed to mention that he suspends accounts of people who are right-leaning for ridiculous reasons (My acct got suspended supposedly because my "activites are against Facebook's community standards.")
Luckily, there is an alternative to the standard social media places on the Internet via "flogs," or "free weblogs," or simply "free blogs"
I created my own social network, and I worked hard on it. I made a secure login system, a friending system, a status update system, an announcements system, and I integrated it with an open-source web-rtc system. It's a pretty nifty "social network," but here's the problem with my social network and with other "alternative" social networks:
I can't put my app on Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Because of my "free speech" policy, my app "doesn't comply with Google's community standards." The way the Google rep worded it: "Your app is prone to abuse and it doesn't include a system for users to report abuse."
Google's nice enough to let my site get indexed by their crawler, and they are fair with ranking and all that, but that's where their friendliness stops. And a social network isn't social unless it has an app on the Google Play Store.
