Are 2600 Meetings Still a Thing?

In the back of every 2600 Magazine issue there is a listing of all active 2600 Meetings. Most of these are in the USA. I've heard that they are a lot of fun, but you may have to travel a long distance to get to a major city where are they are offering those meetups. The meetups are still going, perhaps not as strong as in the past, but they are definitely still a thing.

I've heard stories about cops and creepers attending those meetings so when you go its best to use an alias and not reveal too much about you. The gatherings are usually hosted in coffee shops, malls, or other open places where if you are there it won't look suspicious, just some guy or girl hanging out with other people, having a good time. Now if you were to bring your full desktop computer to the meetups then some people might look at you funny, and this has probably happened before, but with some common sense and some care
to protect your privacy you may have a lot of fun at these gatherings. The meetings themselves are free to attend, but if its located in a place of business you may be expected to buy a coffee or whatever to be a good patron of their establishment.

The 2600 Gatherings are a good place for "sneaker net" file trades, where "sneaker nets" are person-to-person exchange of warez, documents, or whatever.
The "sneaker" part of the name is because you will put on your sneakers (shoes) and physically walk to some place to exchange the files. Likewise, the education you can get from some of these meetups would be a good part of a well-rounded computer technology education, as its complementary to a college education, specifically the computer security path of college education.

Have fun, but don't lose your privacy!
