I run my own monero node which has a copy of the blockchain on an encrypted drive. I take weekly backups on to tape in the event my HDD dies. I use it for making small IRL purchases (Just bought some groceries with a gift card I bought with XMR) as well as supporting z-library. I also intend to spin up my own bitcoin node in the coming days, but that blockchain is almost 1TB in size!! bzip should be able to compress it down quite nicely, but even that will fill up most of a tape for me.
If you don't purchase btc from a KYC exchange and keep it out of exchanges that employ KYC, it is more difficult for people to backtrace the BTC to you. If your purchase must remain anonymous, your best bet is to use XMR.
Have any of you heard of 0xMR? it is monero that uses the Etherium blockchain.
