Sorry for the Short notice, but you were sort-of warn, but
Monday (3/12/07) after I read message, I am going down
my bbs, for a backup & a os change, This should take
    about 1 to 2 weeks.

1-2 weeks? No offence LT but are you sending it back to the manufacturer? :)

Cd or dvd would have been a lot easier than floppy disk. That will take forever.

I loaded OS/2 Warp (RED Spine) from floppy, several times. Hellishly
    tedious!

Closest thing I've done to tht recently is a Slackware install using NFS. Boot, root and network disks galore! That'll teach me not to fool around

I think the biggest floppy install I've ever done was AutoCAD with a couple of the add-on packages.. like 70 3.5" floppies.. onto 17 computers... that was a baby sitting job..

I have a embedded system at work running off NFS, 32mb of flash and no IDE interface :) Fun little unit.

I have an IDE-to-CompactFlash adapter. I plan to use it to build a
no-disk unit soon. Boot from the CompactFlash disk, and use RAMdisk for everything that needs to be volatile.

I have to ask tho, why _are_ you fooling with hardware that old?

I got hold of eight identical units F.O.C. and used them to build a
    Beowulf cluster.

    http://www.anjo.com/stack.jpg

The hardware spec was ludicrous, but there were eight of them, and I had a spare 8-port switch...

Next time I do this it will be eight 1U units to do some parallel
processing, and to DMX a bunch of monitors. ;-)

Sounds like fun! I've always wanted to build a cluster, tho I never did it simply because I couldn't think of a use for one. What do you do with it?

Can anyone say MP3 player and NFS to the file server? :)

:-) I have a machine here running LVM/RAID and serving out all my .ogg
files via NFS and HTTP. But it boots from H/D, not C/F. Some day I will build it's replacement, which *will* boot from C/F!

I've always wanted to build a cluster, tho I never did it simply
because I couldn't think of a use for one. What do you do with it?

Actually, I don't use it for anything any more. I built it just to see
how it worked. What did I do with it? Play with this:

    http://www.osl.iu.edu/~jsquyres/bladeenc/

But in fact, the spec of my cluster was so poor I got better performance
just using my non-parallel workstation. Like I said, the object of the exercise was the exercise itself.
