But all this stuff about "Many migrants are self-deporting" is not somet that anybody can put a real number on.

If they are crossing the southern border, at border crossings, they can put a number on those, and those are up. If you are assuming that some sneak out at other places, then yes they are uncounted but they would
also make the number even higher, not lower.

Where did you hear that the crossings (USA to Mexico) are up? I can't find any info on the internet about that. When I Google'd it, the pages in the results leaned the other way.

I haven't met one yet who said that he/she is illegal and leaving.
