I think he thinks we're all depraved men in soiled sweatpants living in their parent's basement. Sounds like projection to me.
Yeah. I WISH my parents had a basement.
I wish mine still lived in their previous home. It had a finished basement (well, technically it was a bi-level) complete with bathrooms and bedrooms.
That'd be a nice setup! :D
Now, my mother lives in a much smaller home with no basement, while my father and his wife live in a home with a clean, dry basement but with no facilities. It does at least have electric and is a walk out. ;)
atleast you got a mom! my mom died of covid on her birthday.

When I was in 5th grade, I remember the class having an assignment to make som
mock advertisements to promote health and not doing unhealthy things. I remember one of the students drew a graveyard with "Marlboro country" written below it.

It surprises me even more now that cigarette smoking seems to be
making a comeback.
Back in the day, before my time (I am over 50), they promoted cigarettes differently. In some cases, I believe that consumers were even lead to believe they might be healthy.

We can get rid of more stupid people. I say advertise it, promote it
let them all smoke everywhere again. Who cares!?!? Where did I put my HEALTHY low tar darts?

Absolutely true. I remember those commercials in the 60's. Every now and then, my wife will point one of the printed ads that gets posted on facebook from time to time.

was 28 and I still want a cig when I smell someone smoking one. If you have friends who smoke you pretty much have no chance of quitting.
i actually somewhat miss it when people could smoke indoors. i remember one weekend everyone hanging out in the bar having a blast and the next weekend the law changed and it became this routine of people heading back and forth to smoke while i sat inside waiting. i don't miss hanging my jacket up on the deck to air it out though..
I had a lot of relatives, but none I lived with, that were life-long smokers at the time. It was really difficult for them to even consider stopping. What surprised me was how many people my age, and slightly younger, who picked up the habit despite the dire warnings.

Suprising enough, My health problems did'nt start until I stopped smoking, and other lifestyle changes to try to benefit my health. It was a real shock to my body I guess.. took about 3-4 years to get my blood pressure and heart-rate stable.

I quit in 2008 and other than the normal bs that goes with being a diabetic, I didn't really have any other issues.
My wife finally quit a little over a year ago. It was killing her. Less that three weeks after quitting, her face had completely changed and she looked much more lively and younger. She can't breathe anymore and she has gained about 20 lbs but I am just so glad she finally quit...

I don't miss it at all anymore. The smell is pretty disgusting to me now.
I was still able to quit. It wasn't easy, but it wasn't like I was
climbing the walls either. Smoked for over 1/2 my life at the time I
quit.

Awesome that you kicked that. But, if you ever (EVER) decide to try again, PLEASE remember that you don't need to take as much as you did when you regularly did them, and only take a tiny fraction of what you did before.
To this day I still cannot stand to smell cigarettes and cant stand the taste or the consistancy of a soda, cannot believe I used to consume so much of that crap.
Pepsi is the last of my 'vices' and one I need to stop and soon...

years after that i found out I had throat cancer and spent 4 months at Princess Margaret getting 'the works' during Covid. I STILL stared at butt's on the ground. Finally quit!
Pepsi is one of my favorite sodas (I like it better than Coke).

I prefer Double Cola, Red Rock, or RC, but they can be more difficult to find (especially the first two).
My real soda "vices" are Ski and Ale-8-One. ;)

When I was ~25, I went out for a while with a lady who smoked. I never could figure out how she did it but she never smelled like she smoked. I know she smoked outside often, but I also know she smoked in her car and in other indoor places (you could smoke in restaurants back then, for example).

OTOH, about 10 years ago I went out for a few times with another gal who smoked. She was also, IMHO, an alcoholic. She often smelled like an ashtray that someone had spilled stale beer in. I am glad I didn't date
her when I was younger! :o

I've been doing this for years as well. In fact having a club soda
now. It does fool me into thinking I'm not missing out.
Two hookers were talking on a street corner.
One of them asked "Do you smoke when you finish?"
The other one said "I don't know, I never looked."
